“Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38, 40-40, 42 NKJV
God’s love for His people is unfathomable. From the beginning He desires Rest (Sabbath) of the body, mind, and soul for His people (Genesis 2:3). But man got entangled with sin and the result is burdensome (Genesis 3:17). Whenever we engages in unprofitable mind activities, the repercussions comes as unrest, depression, sicknesses, fear, troubles, untimely death which are not God’s intentions for us.
The Preacher says, vanity upon vanity, they all tantamounts to vanity (Eccl. 1:2). Meaningless burdens causes people to become desperate, and over-stressed. God has not burdened us with task that is difficult for us to bear, All that He said to Adam was “do not eat out of a particular tree (Genesis 2:17), and Adam has more than enough varieties of other fruits from uncountable trees in the Garden to eat, which God did provided for him (Genesis 2:16).
To every child, honor your parents (Exodus 20:12).
To every wife, be submissive to your husband (Gen.3:16; Eph.5:25; Col.3:19).
To every husband, love your wife (Eph. 5:22; Col.3:18).
To all humanity, “look unto Me” “Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.
Isaiah 45:22 NKJV
These are not difficult to obey, but what went wrong that man became burdensome?
Why is man heavily laden?
Who placed this yoke upon man?
Why is our bodies in London, but our minds, and thoughts are in far away somewhere in Alaska?
Jesus finger prints satan during the healing of a woman who was bent over for 18years.
“So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” Luke 13:16 NNKJV.
She was bent over by inadequacies, bent over by her unreached plans and goals of life. She was bent over and became crooked through cares of life. Jesus said tomorrow will care for iiself, we should not overburdened ourselves (Matt. 6:34), in as much as we cannot change an iota of anything, why are we bothered. What is your concerns today, which is causing you a great distractions and so much stress? Jesus said “do not worry”
Yes, it was satan who deceived Adam and Eve, it is still Satan who deceives people today, to break God’s law and the moment man accomplishes satan’s bidding, (you are on your own), satan disappeares as man faces the consequences of his actions alone.
It is surprising how people can be distracted, while The Prince of Peace is in the house, Martha was so distracted. Jesus was kind to let her know that God is not looking for workers, but a friend, a child who will not have enough of Him, so, stop your meaningless activities.
Perhaps your distraction is not a person, lack, unreach goals, but might be technology, a hobby or the busyness of your life doing good and valuable kingdom things. The devil knows where we are weak and most likely to be tempted. Sometimes it doesn’t take long before we are physically or mentally caught up in the presence of what is not God’s intent for us. The key is to recognize when this is beginning to happen to us and to find victory. For some of us, it will mean a greater effort, for we have already become addicted or distracted. We must help one another and encourage each other to be faithfully yoked to Jesus over all other distractions (even those that seem to be kingdom-focused).
THE WAY OUT
There is no doubt that Man is burdensome after the fall and the curse, things has become difficult for man, life has become battle ground, things are not working as it should, cares of life has taken over man’s heart and time, but God in His infinite Mercy has sent His only begotten Son to pay the ultimate price for the root cause of the burden of man, and restore all things to normalcy. Little wonder when He came, Jesus said my yoke is easy, and therefore inviting everyone to safety of bliss in Him. He said,
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
When we tends to believe our situation (or the enemy), rather than to believe God. Adam said he was naked, but God ask him who told him (Genesis 3:11)
Whenever our mind activities is greater than the city that never sleeps or a marketplaces/economic centre, rather than to have rest in Him.
When our mind cannot focus on God like the psalmist in Psalms 121
When God’s time is not our time like Sarah who invented terrorist lineage through impatience (wisdom)
When we tried to help God in all ways by visiting false prophets, miracle peddlers, and familiar spirit consultant in the name of going to receive ‘a word from the Lord’ like king Saul (1Samuel 28:7). When you are doing things on your own without carrying God along.
Many are troubled today, they run helter skelter over the situation they cannot change, rather than to ask God for strenght and enablement to overcome every life’s situation (Isaiah 40:31), they get themselves worked up and eventually transfers aggression on everyone around them. Martha transfered her unrest, her burden on the Lord who rebuked her for her meaningless activities.
When we are over burdens ourselves, we will tends to hear News like this: CHRISTIAN MOM KILLED HER CHILDREN – http://www.charismanews.com/us/58101-the-heartbreaking-truth-about-the-christian-mom-who-killed-her-kids-while-dad-was-watching?utm_source=Charisma%20News%20Daily&utm_medium=email&utm_content=subscriber_id:3286640&utm_campaign=CNO%20daily%20-%202016-06-29
ONLY ONE THING IS NEEDED
Jesus said, only One thing is needed for our life to be completed. In the midst of life’s battle, if only we can find this One thing that is needed, the One that makes us whole, the One that bring Peace to our troubled heart, the one that meets our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. The One that fight our battles, while we hold our Peace.
That said, how can we pray for God’s best kingdom life each day? Here are several to get you started:
Father, help me to have a repentant heart for all the times I have placed others and other things above or before You! Give me a deeper desire to soak in Your perfect presence so that I will want nothing more than I want You! Forgive me for my inattentiveness and neglect. Forgive me for my wandering heart and thoughts. Forgive me for straying from Your kingdom in favor of my own!
Grace-filled God, help me to keep my eyes fixed upon Your beautiful face and my ears listening for Your sweet powerful voice today. Help me not to waver to the right or to the left but to walk in the way You guide me for Your kingdom’s sake.
Father, protect me from the temptations and roadblocks the enemy puts in my path to “cut in on” my journey to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those You put in my path. May I never be so distracted that I am not fully aware of a divine appointment or a task You place in front of me.
Holy Spirit, help me to put on Christ daily and to clothe myself in the armor of God each day so that I might be prepared for the battle. May I be continually aware of wearing the righteousness of Jesus.
Lord Jesus, give me the strength to turn away from the things that I tend to spend so much time with that they have become or have the potential to become idols in my life. Give me quick recognition right now of anything that I need to say no to in order to say yes to You! Help my everyday life to be a reflection of Your kingdom on Earth as it is in heaven!
